iCVT truck simulation saves 13.59% fuel
An extensive highway simulation of the iCVT gearbox, fitted to a fully loaded 8-ton commercial truck , has confirmed the advantages of the iCVT. The iCVT simulation results compared to the standard 6-speed truck , with a manual transmission , presents a 13.59 % fuel consumption improvement.
A GPS plotted route of 100 km of highway , between two cities , was used to do the simulation. The results are very encouraging for this specific truck model as the engine has a very “flat” fuel consumption map. This allows it to run very economically at varying engine loads.
Bearing the above in mind the iCVT was still able to improve the fuel consumption ( as mentioned above) by providing the exact gear ratio allowing the engine to run at its optimum efficiency at all times. The simulation results also demonstrate the versatility of the iCVT since it enabled higher average speed resulting in reduced travelling time when a speed optimized ratio-shifting schedule was used.
